Join Mackay Regional Council's Financial Services team as a dynamic and detail-driven Accountant! Play a key role in managing and maintaining our financial systems to ensure the smooth operation of Council's financial functions.

About this opportunity:

This position is integral to the administration and maintenance of our financial systems, ensuring seamless support for Council's financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Council's financial systems to support operational efficiency.
  • Provide expert guidance on financial software and its application to enhance financial operations.
  • Assist in budgeting, project costing, and financial reporting.
  • Interpret and apply accounting standards, policies, and legislation to Council's operations.
  • Contribute to project management and financial management activities.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce, or Accounting (or equivalent) or currently studying towards completion.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).
  • Practical experience in a similar role with demonstrated knowledge of accounting systems, computer programs, and concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to apply accounting standards and legislation.
  • Proven experience in financial management accounting, including budgeting and project costing.
  • Knowledge or experience in project management is highly desirable.
