Job Description

The Woppaburra TUMRA Aboriginal Corporation (WTAC) is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Administration & Project Support Officer to support our continued growth and expansion.

Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

'Our Woppaburra ancestors are the First Nations' Aboriginal inhabitants of what are now known as the Keppel Islands which lay off the Capricorn Coast, Central Queensland'.

Under the Woppaburra people's Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreement (TUMRA) agreement with the Reef Authority, the Woppaburra people will continue to develop and implement important sea country management initiatives in partnership with other organisations. Our work extends to terrestrial work on the Keppel Islands through our Ranger team and other programs.

This role will provide administrative support across the organisation while developing skills and experience in office systems, communication, and basic financial administration. This is an entry-level or intermediate role suitable for someone starting their career or returning to the profession. The role works under supervision to perform and assist with the following duties and will receive guidance and training as required.

 

General Administration and Project Support

  • Day-to-day administration

  • Assist with meeting preparation, note taking & communication

  • Provide assistance with booking travel and event arrangements

  • Assist with project administration and reporting

  • Maintaining office facilities including the procurement of equipment and supplies

  • Assist with maintaining work plans, calendars, booking systems & registers

  • Contribute to drafting and maintenance of internal policies and procedures

Finance Administration

  • Support accounts payable and receivable processing

  • Maintain simple spreadsheets and registers

  • Assist with expense tracking

  • Assist with bank reconciliations & general ledger reconciliations

  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting and finance tasks

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Strong computer skills across Microsoft Suite and/or Google Workspace

  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Collaborative and inclusive approach and desire to work well in a small team which is committed to a shared purpose

  • Ability to follow policies & procedures as well as verbal instructions

  • Working independently whilst fostering teamwork and working effectively as a team member

  • Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines

  • Self-disciplined with excellent time management skills

Desirable

  • Minimum of 2-3 years demonstrated experience in a similar role

  • Working proficiency with Xero and intermediate to advanced excel skills

  • Certificate III in Business Administration or Finance

This position is funded under programs that prioritise outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the health of our land and sea country. Woppaburra and other first nations peoples are strongly encouraged to apply but this role is open to any suitable applicants.
