Airport Reporting / Works Safety Officer

  • Fixed Term Full Time (Until 4 January 2026)
  • 7 Day Roster, 76 hours per fortnight
  • $71,703 - $73,917 per annum (LGIA Stream B Level 5-6 (depending on skills and experience) + Site Allowance) + Superannuation
  • Location – Rockhampton

Your new role

The Rockhampton Airport has a unique opportunity for an Airport Reporting / Works Safety Officer to join their team. You will be responsible for the inspection, monitoring, reporting and general maintenance of aeronautical safety and security facilities at Rockhampton Airport.

You will gain knowledge of the safe and secure operation of the airside environment at the Rockhampton Airport and have the opportunity to gain experience in areas such as emergency responses, wildlife hazard mitigation and incident management.

It is an ongoing condition of employment for this position to meet the necessary requirements to qualify for an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) which includes Australian Citizenship and Police Background Checks (arranged by Council). Applicants must also satisfy the requirements of the Rockhampton Airport Drug and Alcohol Management Plan.

Applicants must also have the ability to acquire and retain a Queensland Firearms Licence (Category A, B, C and H); Senior First Aid Certificate and Aircraft Radiotelephone Operator Certificate of Proficiency.

What we are looking for

  • Quality customer service when liaising with a wide variety of clientele including the public, military, airport tenants, aviation industry and Council personnel.
  • Previous experience in maintenance safety and security.
  •  Previous aviation experience is highly desirable.
  • Team player that openly shares knowledge and information to deliver best outcomes.
  • A proactive and responsible approach to uphold council values.
  • Ability to participate in a 7-day roster covering Airport operating hours and the ability to be ‘on call’.

Application Criteria

  • Experience operating equipment and plant such as tractors, slashers, brush cutters and lawn mowers.
  • Ability to interpret and understand manuals, technical drawings, written instructions as well as possessing computer skills.
  • Demonstrate skills in organisational, time management, task planning and prioritisation skills with a strong focus on attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and the ability to provide good written and verbal communication when liaising with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
