AOD Youth Counsellor Case Manager

Job Description

Our Rockhampton service provides free alcohol and other drug counselling and support services, including support for young people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Rockhampton and surrounding regions. You will work in a team of 6 clinicians. You will be one of three Clinicians specifically working with youth. You will have your own counselling room and there will be regular team catch ups with your colleagues as well as your Team Leader who is also located in the Rockhampton office.

We are currently seeking a full-time AOD Youth Counsellor Case Manager to join the team on a maximum term contract until 30th June 2025.

 

Your opportunity

As an AOD Youth Counsellor Case Manager based in Rockhampton, you will engage and support clients in managing, counselling, and treating AOD dependency and related issues. You will advocate for them, celebrate their achievements, and help them build confidence to move forward.

Your responsibilities include providing non-judgmental, client-centred support, conducting assessments, and offering a wide range of clinical and psycho-social interventions. You will work with clients 12 years and older to develop personalised recovery plans collaboratively. Your daily tasks will involve a mix of face-to-face appointments, stakeholder engagement, events, and online meetings (via Microsoft Teams) with staff for case conferences and supervision.

You will undertake some travel, supporting clients at other locations, including Mount Morgan and Yeppoon. This position does work with complex client presentations. The sole focus of support is AOD, but case management requires supporting clients who come with complex issues of mental health, domestic and family violence, homelessness, financial concerns, but this is not limited to the clientele.

The gross annual salary for this role is ranges between $97,377 and 101,787 per annum plus super and the opportunity to salary package. The salary on offer will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, knowledge and experience.

 

What you’ll bring

We're looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, or a related health field.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing youth focussed AOD counselling, support, and outreach services.
  • Applied knowledge in contemporary evidence based AOD counselling practice, case management and intake and assessment
  • Proficiency in conducting assessments, developing care plans, and delivering therapeutic interventions tailored to young people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with young people, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to work in various settings, including community outreach and residential programs.
  • Capability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a supportive team environment
  • Possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and other applications
  • Current Australian issued Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check (e.g., Blue Card).

While not essential, we’d also love you to have: 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) and Mental Health Sector.
  • Previous experience providing mental health or AOD services to young people.
