Automotive Electrician

Job Description

Optec is seeking experienced Auto Electricians to deliver installation, commissioning, and ongoing support of Fleet Management Systems (FMS) and Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) across mobile mining assets on site and at their Mackay workshop.

You’ll be responsible for installation, calibration, diagnostics, and system validation of advanced proximity detection and safety systems across heavy and light mobile equipment, ensuring reliable performance and compliance with site safety standards.

These roles will be based in or around Mackay, working 7/7 (days only) rosters, and offered on 12 month rolling contract engagements with Optec.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Cert III in Automotive Electrical or Electronics (or equivalent trade).

  • Proven mining or heavy mobile equipment experience, ideally within auto electrical, communications or a related technology field.

  • Strong skills in fault-finding, wiring, diagnostics, and integration of electronic systems.

  • Competent in commissioning, calibration, and testing of electronic and communication systems.

Practical experience with or exposure to:

  • Fleet Management Systems (FMS) MineStar, Haultrax, Hexagon

  • Collision Avoidance System (CAS) Wenco, Wabtec, Hexagon

  • Proximity detection, RF beacons, and GPS/INS positioning systems

  • CAN bus / vehicle networks across Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr fleets

  • Rajant Kinetic Mesh, Wi-Fi, LTE/4G, and Motorola or Tait radio systems

  • Fleet and safety systems such as Modular or MineStar etc

  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel regionally.

  • Safety-focused, self-sufficient, and comfortable working in remote field environments
