The Opportunity

HDE Engineers is looking for a commercially minded Business Development Engineer to drive growth and strengthen client relationships across Central Queensland, based in Rockhampton or Gladstone.

This is a role for someone who understands local government, power or manufacturing environments and heavy industry — and who can confidently open doors, develop opportunities and work alongside engineers to deliver practical outcomes, while managing the client experience.

About the Business

HDE Engineers is a Central Queensland–based engineering design business with offices in Rockhampton, Gladstone and Emerald, supporting local government, power generation, manufacturing and heavy industry clients.

The business is locally owned and led, with strong family foundations and a clear focus on long-term sustainability and growth. The team includes experienced mechanical, structural and electrical engineers, designers and drafting professionals.

Your New Role

You are a commercially astute Business Development Engineer who is familiar with heavy industry or engineering and has an understanding of site operations, ready to take ownership of business development activity across Central Queensland. 

In this high-impact role, you will be responsible for generating qualified opportunities and strengthening client relationships and helping create consistent commercial momentum across the business. You will ensure alignment between client expectations and delivered outcomes to secure repeat business.

As a proactive and disciplined professional, you will work closely with the Business Director and leadership team to bring clarity, structure, and energy to the commercial front end of the business.

Competitive salary package circa $120,000 – $150,000 + vehicle + super, aligned to relevant experience, industry background and commercial capability.
 
 

Role Requirements

  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline of opportunities 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing clients, asset owners and project stakeholders

  • Produce quotes and tender documents with internal engineering and drafting teams

  • Stay connected with clients through project milestones to secure repeat work

  • Ensure opportunities are commercially viable and aligned with internal capability

  • Willingness to travel to sites within Central Queensland as required

 

Key Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Strong Engineering background (mechanical, structural or similar)

  • Experience in mining, power, manufacturing or heavy industry environments

  • Proven experience in business development, account management or client-facing roles

  • Ability to understand technical scopes and work with engineering teams during quoting

  • Strong communication skills, relationship building capability and a disciplined, self-managed approach
