Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Coal Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and analysis of coal and other related samples, ensuring compliance with the appropriate international standards. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Paget, QLD.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide and maintain high quality, accurate and timely work.
  • Perform duties of all routine shipping and exploration project sampling, preparation and analysis.
  • Ensure everyone is aware of the safety environment.
  • Assisting with preventative maintenance and calibration of preparation equipment.
  • Prioritisation of urgent samples and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Operation of analytical, manual analytical and preparation equipment.
  • Compliance with analytical methods, procedures and SGS Quality Systems.
  • Contributing to a safe workplace by conducting risk assessments, addressing hazards, and implementing improvements.
  • Maintain a high standard of general housekeeping.

 

Qualifications

SGS is looking for candidates who come from a fast-paced background. The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Coal sampling, preparation and testing experience preferred, but not essential
  • Good computer skills, Excel proficiency beneficial and previous experience with data management programs (highly regarded)
  • Previous experience in general mineral laboratory environment preferred, but not essential
  • Ability to work on shifts and rosters
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet tight deadlines
