Community Engagement Officer

Job Description

About the Role

The purpose of the Community Engagement Officer is to aid with delivering the Connected Beginnings project and work with the Program Coordinator and other project staff to carry out the Connected Beginnings project objectives, which are to deliver integrated service delivery that contributes to reducing the disparity in school readiness and educational outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous children.

 

This position is located within our Children and Family Centre, which provides integrated service delivery, combing a range of services and disciplines to create a comprehensive and coherent service delivery system that benefits families with young children within our community. We aim to provide comprehensive, locally responsive, and connected services that support children’s and parent’s well-being, enhance positive child learning and development, and building parenting capacity through connecting existing early childhood, maternal and child health, and family support services, increasing participation of First Nations children, pregnant women, and families and better preparing our First Nations children to transition to school.

 

 

 

 

This role is required to

  • Build productive and collaborative relationships with parents, children, key stakeholders, and community organisations to facilitate integrated service delivery that increases school readiness and education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
  • Provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander families in the community with information about the available services that support the first 1000 Days, school readiness and educational outcomes.
  • Participate in organisation and community engagement activities and meetings that aim to improve school readiness and educational outcomes.
  • Actively engage in the quality improvement process to increase positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Certificate III or above in a relevant qualification (e.g. Certificate IV Primary Health Care (Community) Children’s Services, Community Service, or child youth and family intervention would be highly regarded). Or previous work experience in a similar Community support and/or Family support program would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within the wider community.
  • Appropriate cultural knowledge and understanding which will enable you to provide culturally safe programs and services.
  • Ability to work within a small team environment to achieve desired outcomes. You will be required to work with other education professionals and community organisations that support children’s learning, development, and well-being.
  • A basic understanding of children’s learning and development, case management, family intervention, and the willingness to undertake professional learning and opportunities.

 

 

 

 

 

Practical Requirements

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
  • Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card (note a current Blue Card will be required prior to commencement)
  • Satisfactory Police Check.
