Gladstone Regional Council is proud to help facilitate the upskilling of our region in a diverse range of roles and across a variety of Council locations. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an organisation that is committed to delivering outstanding service to our community. 

Council has an opportunity to appoint a permanent full time Designer Cadet to contribute to Council’s success. This Cadetship is an opportunity to undertake an Associate Degree of Engineering (Civil Engineering) and is based at the Calliope Office. Upon successful completion of your Cadetship, you will become a Designer with Council.

About the Opportunity

  • Full-time work, part-time study with education financial assistance, on-the-job training and paid study time.
  • You will gain important on the job experience to grow in your role and become a proficient designer under a team of mentors.
  • You will be exposed to a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects in both size, scale and technical scope within Local Government.
  • The Asset Designs team are solutions focused, continuously working towards improvement initiatives and improving systems and processes to enhance the outcomes of the section.

 About You

  • Currently studying or eligible to enrol in an Associate Degree of Engineering.
  • Completed Year 12 or AQF Diploma level qualification.
  • Commitment to undertaking relevant study and a career in the Design field.
  • Technical ability to develop skills in a civil engineering environment.
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Ability to gain an understanding of and apply Guidelines, relevant Acts and Regulations, Engineering Guidelines and Standards.
  • Ability to gain an understanding and develop competency operating Council's current engineering software packages being AutoCAD and Civil3D.
