Diversion and AOD Counsellor Case Manager

Job Description

Our Rockhampton service offers free counselling and support for alcohol and other drug issues, including specialised support for young people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Rockhampton and nearby areas.

We also provide Police Court Diversion services. These initiatives aim to reduce alcohol and drug-related offences and provide individuals with a second chance to transform their lives.

Your Opportunity  

Due to expansion of our team, we are seeking a part-time Diversion/ AOD Counsellor Case Manager to join our team on a maximum term contract until 30 June 2025.

In this role, you will conduct face-to-face and phone counselling sessions. You will work 7 days per fortnight (53.2 hours) with flexibility in working days.

 

You will be part of a team of 6 clinicians, serving as the sole Diversion Counsellor within the larger team of AOD Clinicians in both youth and adult programs. You will have your own counselling room and participate in regular team meetings with your colleagues and your Team Leader, who is also based in the Rockhampton office.

 

As a Diversion Counsellor, you will deliver diversion programs, including the Drug and Alcohol Assessment Referral (DAAR) Program and Police and Court Diversion (PCD). This involves meeting with referred clients to provide assessments and counselling through brief interventions and psychoeducation.

 

While your primary focus will be on diversion work, you will also support the AOD Youth Counselling team by working with clients aged 12 and older. You will engage and assist clients in managing, counselling, and treating AOD dependency and related issues. Your responsibilities include offering non-judgmental, client-centred support, conducting assessments, and providing a variety of clinical and psycho-social interventions. This role also includes a small outreach component.

 

The gross hourly pay rate ranges between $43.08 to $46.36 plus super, depending on the successful candidate’s skills, knowledge and experience.
 

What you’ll bring

 

We're looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, or a related health field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply!
  • Demonstrated clinical skills or knowledge of assessment, case management, risk management, safety planning and brief intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills or knowledge working with clients who are referred through statutory pathways.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with young people, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to work in various settings, including community outreach and residential programs.
  • Capability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a supportive team environment
  • Possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and other applications.
  • Current Australian issued Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check (e.g., Blue Card).

While not essential, we’d also love you to have: 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) and Mental Health Sector.
