Golf Course Assistant Superintendant

Job Description

Gladstone Golf Club is seeking a motivated and career‑focused Golf Course Assistant Superintendent to join our turf management team. This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to not only assist in the maintenance and presentation of the existing Gladstone Golf Club course, but also to be actively involved in the planning, construction, and grow‑in of the new championship golf course at Byellee Waters.

Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, you will be part of a progressive operation focused on high standards, continuous improvement, and long‑term career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, prioritisation, and supervision of daily course maintenance activities

  • Lead and support staff in the absence of the Superintendent

  • Maintain high turf presentation standards across greens, tees, fairways, and surrounds

  • Assist with turf grow‑in, construction liaison, and maintenance planning for the Byellee Waters project

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain irrigation systems

  • Undertake spraying, fertilising, mowing, and renovation programs

  • Ensure WHS policies and safe work practices are always followed

  • Prepare course conditions for competitions and major events

  • Maintain records including spray diaries, maintenance logs, and machinery usage

About You

  • Certificate III or IV in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent experience)

  • Previous experience in golf course or sports turf maintenance

  • Strong understanding of turf agronomy and maintenance practices

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team

  • Experience operating turf maintenance machinery and irrigation systems

  • Chemical User Accreditation (or willingness to obtain)

  • Current driver’s licence

  • Availability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with warm‑season turf grasses

  • Exposure to golf course construction or major renovation projects

  • Spray program planning and record‑keeping experience

  • Familiarity with modern irrigation systems (Toro, Rain Bird or similar)
