GRADUATE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

NRG Gladstone Operating Services (NRGGOS), a wholly owned subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc; operates and maintains the 6 unit, 1680MW Gladstone Power Station (GPS) - Queensland’s largest single power station.  NRGGOS operates the Station in a safe, reliable and responsible manner and we achieve this through the skills, knowledge, experience, innovation and drive of our people.

NRG Gladstone Operating Services (NRGGOS) is currently seeking to appoint a Graduate Electrical Engineer for a fixed term of three years.  This position is based in Gladstone, which is located on the coast six hours north of Brisbane and has a moderate tropical climate.  Its access to waterways and the southern Great Barrier Reef offers many choices for boating fishing and camping and a great work life balance. The town has excellent schooling and other family services.

The successful applicant will enter a graduate program that will include work for fixed periods of time in the following departments:

  • Engineering Technical Services

  • Major Projects and Contractor Services

  • Overhauls and Outages

  • Production Support Services

Your development will be focused on power station engineering, project management, contractor management and gaining a strong knowledge of coal fired power station operational practices.  With progression through the program, accountabilities of the role include and will increase in the following areas:

  • Investigate plant performance or failure issues and design plant modifications

  • Develop Life Strategies for plant

  • Electrical Engineering support to other departments including maintenance and production

  • Project development from concept design through to implementation

  • Project Management of O&M, Capital and Refurbishment Works including Major Overhaul and Outage support

  • Contract and contractor management

  • Plant Performance Monitoring and Routine Testing

  • Contribute to and implement continuous improvement to technology, systems and processes

Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering are essential and additionally can be supported by experience in heavy industry.  Leadership qualities, commercial awareness and a safety focus are key personal attributes required to successfully complete this role. 

Essential Skills and Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  • Strong understanding and commitment to Health, Safety and Environment principles and safe work practices

  • Demonstrate ability to work within a team.

  • Interpersonal skills and sound to high written and verbal communication skills.

  • Sound ability to use Microsoft Suite

  • Ability to use Microsoft Project

  • Ability to interpret numerical information and logically analyse complex data

  • Ability to problem solve in a logical manner

  • Ability to read / write / draft technical documentation
