About the role
Mater Health is looking for an experienced and dynamic Head Chef to join our Mercy Food Services team. This role is permanent, full time is based at our Rockhampton City campus.
Salary range: $80,392 - $88,610 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing the smooth operations of Mercy Foodservices (MFS) foodservice production by leading a large team of cooks, chefs and food service assistants and performing cooking and food preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner.
Reporting to the Corporate Chef, the Head Chef will ensure Mater chefs and cooks adhere to all kitchen and company policies and procedures, ensuring the provision of high-quality food products and menus suitable for a broad range of patient therapeutic diet requirements. The Head Chef provides day to day leadership to the Chef Supervisor and Chefs and cooks with responsibility for overall rostering and relief management of the production team and management of safe, efficient and fiscally responsible food preparation for all customers of MFS.

About you
- Current (within the last 5 years) Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Certificate III or Certificate IV Commercial Cookery or equivalent.
- Trade Chef Qualifications or equivalent.
- Experience in a comparable position in a large commercial kitchen for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Demonstrated experience with HACCP, Workplace Health and Safety and quality principles.
- Knowledge of Allergens, PEAL Labelling laws and application of both in a health setting.
- Proven ability to lead teams, contributing to the operational and financial KPI’s for the broader department.
- Proficient in the application of computerised information systems and applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to develop, read, follow and understand recipes, recipe methods, procedures and product being utilised for production.
