The Opportunity 
This is a full-time, leadership position (Head of Department), responsible for the school’s Outdoor Education Programme for students from Prep to Year 12. Based primarily at the Ritamada Outdoor Education Centre, you will design and oversee a programme that challenges students physically and mentally while encouraging teamwork and personal growth.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Managing and mentoring the outdoor education team, fostering a culture of professional growth.
  • Ongoing development and implementation of outdoor education programmes across P-12 with a particular focus on leadership and character development, and the alignment to the schools wider academic and pastoral programmes.
  • Ensuring all outdoor programmes meet the highest safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • Overseeing risk management processes and maintaining all outdoor equipment and facilities.
  • Delivering quality teaching and learning, reflective of your leadership standing within the school community.
 
 
About You 
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate strong leadership in outdoor education, with a passion for student development and safety.
 
You will:
  • Hold relevant outdoor education qualifications, including Wilderness or Remote Area First Aid certification.
  • Be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) or eligible for registration.
  • Have demonstrated experience in leading a range of outdoor activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, sea kayaking, abseiling, and ropes courses.
  • Bring expertise in risk management and safety protocols for outdoor programmes.
  • Possess a growth mindset, a global and regional outlook, and be an advocate for the impact quality outdoor education programmes have on the whole school community
  • Have proven experience running a wide range programmes. Experience with programmes such as ‘duke of ed’ or VET outdoor recreation certificate II is highly desirable.
  • Have a broad passion for outdoor recreation, making you highly suited to this context which offers so many environments for students to experience.
