A flexible opportunity for one or more hospitality workers to assist with the provision of catering and housekeeping services at Central Queensland's first hospice.

About Us

Fitzroy Community Hospice (FCH) is a community-driven, not-for-profit charitable organisation established in direct response to the need for greater access to community-based palliative care in Central Queensland. Governed by a Board of Directors, FCH has grown in 3 years from an “idea” to a home-like 11-bed hospice facility; with an planned opening in early June 2024. As an alternative to hospital or home-based palliative care, FCH will provide the full spectrum of subacute palliative care, including short term symptom management, transitional care between hospital and home, and care in the last weeks and days of life. It is envisaged that an integrated model of care with Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service will improve patient and family experiences at the end of life.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the preparation of appetising and nutritious meals for patients, and catering on an as needed basis for families & carers, meetings, and onsite functions;
  • Delivers patient meals and offers refreshments to patients and families/carers;
  • Undertakes dishwashing and kitchen cleaning; 
  • Provides housekeeping services across the facility, including in patient rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, and offices;
  • Monitors and restocks food and non-clinical supplies across the facility;
  • Replenishes the linen store and collects dirty linen for commercial pickup;
  • Launders patient/family personal items, on request.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience providing hospitality services (catering and/or housekeeping) in a healthcare or other hospitality setting;
  • Basic food safety, hygiene, and infection control skills and knowledge.

Other Requirements (prior to employment):

  • Satisfactory National Police Check;
  • Evidence of immunity to Vaccine Preventable Diseases.

Permanent part time and casual shifts available

Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
