APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal to manage operations at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia’s northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.

 

We are looking for a Human Resources Coordinator to join our team in a hands-on, operational role. This position is integral to ensuring the smooth day-to-day delivery of HR services, supporting employees and leaders with workforce planning, recruitment, employee relations and compliance. You will be a trusted point of contact for HR matters, working closely with teams on-site to provide practical, people-focused solutions.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide day-to-day HR support and guidance to employees and managers across all levels
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning to ensure business needs are met
  • Support employee relations, including performance management, grievances, and workplace investigations
  • Ensure compliance with workplace laws, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate training and development initiatives to support employee growth and compliance requirements
  • Assist in implementing HR programs that enhance engagement, culture, and retention
  • Maintain accurate HR records and support reporting requirements
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure HR processes run efficiently on-site.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • Experience in a similar operational HR role, preferably in the resources, logistics, or industrial sectors
  • Strong knowledge of Australian workplace legislation, including the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, and industrial instruments
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, employment law, and workplace relations
  • A hands-on, practical approach with a strong ability to engage with employees at all levels
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency
