About the role
DGH is seeking a skilled and reliable Industrial Painter &/or Abrasive Blaster to join our team on a casual basis. This position is based in Mackay Workshop, Mon to Fri and offers the flexibility of casual work whilst contributing to critical industrial coating and surface preparation projects. You will be responsible for preparing, blasting, and painting industrial surfaces to the highest standards, ensuring durability and compliance with industry specifications. This role plays an essential part in maintaining the quality and longevity of our clients' industrial assets.

Key responsibilities

  • Performing abrasive blasting operations to remove rust, scale, and old coatings from metal surfaces using industry-standard equipment

  • Preparing surfaces by cleaning and degreasing to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality

  • Applying protective coatings and industrial paints using spray equipment, brushes, and rollers to specification

  • Following safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues

  • Inspecting completed work to ensure adherence to quality standards, specifications, and client requirements

  • Maintaining equipment in good working order and reporting any defects or maintenance issues promptly

  • Reading and interpreting technical specifications, work orders, and safety data sheets

  • Working efficiently to meet project timelines whilst maintaining exceptional quality standards

  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project progress and any challenges

 

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience as an Industrial Painter, Abrasive Blaster, or similar surface preparation and coating role

  • Sound knowledge of abrasive blasting techniques and industrial painting processes

  • Competency in operating spray equipment, pressure washers, and surface preparation machinery

  • Understanding of surface protection systems, coating specifications, and quality standards

  • Current or willingness to obtain relevant safety certifications, including high-risk work licenses where required

  • Physical capability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality finishes

  • Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent health and safety awareness and compliance record

  • Experience with surface preparation standards such as AS/NZS ISO 12944 or equivalent is highly desirable
