About the role
As a Mechanical Technician in the Digestion Turnarounds team at our Yarwun Refinery, you will play a crucial role in maintaining assets within our maintenance management framework. You will be responsible for applying work management processes and performing maintenance work allocated ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our assets.

Reporting to the Maintenance Digestion – Turnarounds Team Leader and working a 5/5/4 dayshift roster, your role may involve:

  • Maintaining mechanical assets across the refinery, focused on planned maintenance or plant limiting work, troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment failures and improving reliability

  • Working on pipes, tanks, pumps, valves & flange management

  • Confined space and working at heights activities

  • Working autonomously, being reliable and positively contributing to the maintenance team, understanding the requirement to maintain assets in a safe and reliable condition

  • Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives which will involve working with many different disciplines within the organisation

  • Proven maintenance experience working in heavy industry

  • Proven history of fault finding and repairs on various fixed plant equipment

Where you’ll be working

Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.

 

As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.

With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
