Occupational Health Nurse

Job Description

As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing first aid medical treatment and emergency response, conducting fitness for work assessments, and contributing to the development of health-related policies and procedures. This position is a casual role, 1-2 days a week supporting the site SHES Specialist Health. This role is based in Gladstone, QLD.

Key Responsibilities:
First Aid Medical Treatment and Emergency Response:
  • Provide immediate medical care in case of workplace accidents or illnesses
  • Ensure all work-related injuries and illnesses are captured in reporting systems
  • Supervise and support 1st aid delivery given by emergency response team
Health Assessments:
  • Provide professional occupational health support through
  • Ensuring that health assessments are performed to Company standards
  • Advise management where the findings of the health assessments may adversely impact on work capacity or indicate excessive work exposures
  • Liaise with medical practitioners where required

Injury Management support:
  • Provide professional occupational health support to workers compensation and rehabilitation management process through:
  • Identification of work-related injuries or illnesses during health surveillance activities & reporting appropriately to line manager
  • Participate in regular claim review and rehabilitation management meetings
  • Provide advice on any health-related factors impacting on the rehabilitation process

Health & Hygiene related services:
  • Review of completed Contractor health assessment questionnaires
  • Execution of site Drug & Alcohol testing program
  • Development of health component of D&A Management Plans
  • Health record storage and archiving in accordance with Orica Data/Confidentiality and health procedures, and relevant legislation
  • Coordinate sites psychosocial wellness program
  • Support health promotion programs such as flu vaccination, skin checks, personal health program
  • Assess and authorise Hazardous Substance assessments
  • Conduct and support respiratory and hearing protection fit testing

Education & Experience:  
  • Registered Nurse - General
  • Qualifications / experience in Occupational Health
  • Rehabilitation Coordinator
  • Senior First Aid
  • Advance Resuscitation
  • Mental Health First Aid
