Essjay Contracting Pty Ltd is a Civil Contracting business based in Rockhampton, QLD. We deliver a large fleet of heavy earth moving machinery, trucks and light plant to a range of projects in the private, commercial and government sectors. Our project commitments are located throughout Central & Western Queensland & the Bowen Basin.

 

Your Role

To provide leadership and oversight for the ‘operations’ of Essjay Contracting. 

This role has been developed to provide assistance to the Operations Superintendent by taking on the responsibility to oversee multiple projects and monitor activities at worksites. The role involves overseeing crews, ensuring health and safety codes are observed and that work is completed to schedule. Duties also include helping develop relationships that can lead to future contracts.

 

General Leadership

  1. Be responsible for producing and maintaining systems in relation to Project oversight.
  2. Be responsible for ensuring Company compliance with regulatory requirements.
  3. Site Supervision and Crew Leadership:
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and enforce safe work practices.
  • Ensuring teams work together to deliver quality work to deadlines.
  • Motivate, lead, and coach crews to achieve high-quality work performance.
  • Address crew/Supervisor concerns and mediate any conflicts that may arise.
  • Maintain clear communication with crew members regarding tasks, expectations, and safety protocols.

 

Specific Areas of Responsibility

  • Always ensuring adherence to workplace health and safety regulations:
    • Induction of new earthmoving staff
    • Regular toolbox/education sessions
    • Associated documentation requirements.
  • Staying up-to-date with safety codes and advancements in construction. Aswell as leading and maintaining a strong safety culture.
  • Managing project progress and adapting work as required.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and being responsible for training of new staff onsite.
  • Traveling and working across multiple sites as required while performing equipment and routine site inspections.
  • Having an ‘on the ground’ presence and providing guidance and feedback to the teams and individuals.
  • Coordinate the daily activities of each project with the Site Supervisors and Leading Hands. Be hands on and work alongside/back fill Supervisors.
  • Manage assets, including and asset damage, pre inspections, off-hire procedure, including mob/demob management. While communicating with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Conducting project reviews and reporting for the Operations Superintendent.
  • Perform equipment and routine site inspections. 
  • Managing diverse teams.

 

Skills required to perform well in the role:

  • An analytical mind
  • Ability to lead and set an example for your team on site 
  • Experience across a variety of Mining and Civil machinery, Maintenance and Operations
  • Commercial and business awareness
  • Good communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Good people skills
  • A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
  • Ability to abide by to time constraints
  • Ability to focus and keep calm under pressure
  • Ability to keep track of multiple projects

 

Requirements

  • Five or more years’ experience in civil construction
  • Cert IV or Diploma in Management (or equivalent)
  • S1, S2, S3 qualification (desirable)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Construction Induction card

 

This role is offered as a full-time salary position based out of Rockhampton, QLD.
