We are looking for an experienced Operation Supervisor – Shift, committed to inspiring and guiding a team of skilled professionals while achieving business objectives through outstanding leadership.
Reporting directly to the Operations Superintendent, you will manage a team of highly skilled operational personnel, overseeing the execution of planned activities at the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.
Your role will focus on effectively delivering the terminal’s production requirements, ensuring maximum efficiency and safety while driving incident and injury-free operations. This success will be achieved by fostering strong, cooperative relationships within shift teams, other key stakeholders, contractors and management. You'll collaborate closely with Maintenance, Logistics and Planning Supervisors; as well as tradespeople, to align with terminal priorities.
As a permanent role, a key focus is optimising people and safety performance to boost productivity. Emphasis on people management is central, requiring you to coach, mentor, and provide regular performance feedback. Through visible safety leadership, you will spend your time in the field; coaching, mentoring and leading your team as well as meeting the high demands of procedural, legislative, and process compliance.
Familiarity with systems such as RS View, SCADA, Enablon and PortVu or similar would be advantageous as well as experience with Export Terminals, Material Handling and Shipping.
This role plays a pivotal part in continuing to improve operational processes through:
- Providing visible leadership
- Being present and actively involved with your team, ensuring your input is clear and your role is recognised
- Building effective working relationships
- Leading your team in SLAM and Safety Observations
- Coaching and leading a team of multi-skilled Operators
- Supervision of the permanent (EA) workforce
- Managing employees as per EBA and contract agreements
- Collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure operational plans and schedules are met
- Conducting daily prestart talks and safety management activities
- Ensuring JDE work management processes are followed
- Reporting and investigating hazards and incidents using Enablon
- Working closely with stakeholders both internal and external to provide sustainable solutions
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate strong safety leadership and proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams within an industrial setting. A solid grasp of people management, operational environments, and the ability to make decisive, priority-based decisions are essential. Holding relevant leadership qualifications and possessing excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively communicate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
You must be assertive and confident in making decisions. Strategic handling of challenging situations, including managing employees, and understanding psychosocial risk and hazards will be key. You'll convey your leadership clearly while fostering understanding and compliance with your directives.
The role involves working a roster comprising of 8-12 hour shifts over weekdays and weekends across mornings, afternoons and nights and offers a competitive remuneration package.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Proven leadership experience in mining operations, ideally within the coal and export sector.
- Solid understanding of heavy industry and proficiency with mining equipment.
- Familiarity with computer-based operational systems.
- Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong planning skills and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Expertise in operational KPI analysis and downtime reporting.
