The Neighbourhood Hub is the leading locally based neighbourhood centre and has been delivering services to the Mackay region for over 35 years.

The Program
The Program supports families in Mackay through case management and counselling as well as the provision of information, advice and referrals to strengthen the family unit. Support includes helping parents develop effective family functioning and household management skills.
Centre-based parenting peer support groups help develop the knowledge, confidence and skills of families in their parenting roles, while connecting them to other parents and local community networks.
The Program provides linkages with external support services, enabling families to access resources to stabilise and maintain family wellbeing.
The aim of the Program is to provide family support services that reduce harm or risk of harm to children and young people, prevent crises or problems within families from arising or escalating, and stabilise or maintain family wellbeing.
The Role
The Parenting and Family Programs Worker is responsible for working in partnership with the Family Support Team to ensure the effective delivery of the Program. The Program aims to:

Improve the wellbeing and safety of children, young people and their families

Provide linkages to local universal support services/community groups to enable families to access the resources to build their capacity to solve problems and make positive choices and changes

Build the capacity of families to care for and protect their children

Prevent entry or re-entry to the statutory child protection system.
Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the planning, facilitation and evaluation of the centre based Parenting Together Peer Support Group

Adapt program content to reflect evidence-informed practice, participant feedback and community needs

Provide leadership within group settings to promote safety, engagement and peer connection

Provide support, guidance, training, and mentoring to volunteers involved in program delivery

Assist case managers and counsellors by providing follow-up support for families, including liaison and practical assistance

Participate in Local Level Alliance of government and non-government services

Maintain accurate and appropriate records and statistics according to the requirements of the organisation and the funding body.

Ensure program resources are managed within budget and funding guidelines and in accordance with current laws and regulations.

Respond effectively to the diverse needs of children and families.

Deliver services in an equitable and culturally appropriate manner

Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
Desirable qualifications and requirements for the role
-
Qualifications and/or experience in Social Sciences, Human Services or other relevant field
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders

Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills

Possession of a current driver’s license and own reliable transport

Holder of a Blue Card through the Commission for Children and Young People
This role is part time up to 18-20 hours per week over 3 days.
