PLANT PERFORMANCE ENGINEER

NRG Gladstone Operating Services (NRGGOS) is currently seeking to appoint a permanent full time Plant Performance Engineer to join the Production department, working a 40-hour week on a 9-day fortnight basis. 

The Gladstone Power Station remains Queensland’s largest single power station with 1680MW of flexible generating capacity and supplies power to the Queensland electricity network and Boyne Island Aluminium Smelter through a long-term power supply agreement.  We enjoy an enviable reputation as an established employer with low turn-over and a strong culture of working together to overcome challenges. Gladstone is located on the coast six hours north of Brisbane and has a moderate tropical climate. The purpose of the Plant Performance Engineer role is to provide ongoing technical, process and engineering support for the Production Department and Manager with respect to plant operations, asset and process performance and strategic issues. Some key criteria are;

  • increase our focus on plant wide performance, station capacity and operational improvement 
  • improving the working relationship and communication between operations and maintenance
  • providing increased technical expertise across whole of site plant and processes 
  • leadership of plant improvement projects 
  • Strategic input to life of plant issues.

This role will also lead plant performance projects and investigations and drive the completion of identified improvement strategies to meet business objectives.

The role will provide supervision to, and have accountability for the performance, quality and output of the Production Technical Officer role.

To be effective in the role, the candidate will require strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to influence and drive plant performance improvement outcomes across the business.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or Equivalent, qualifications in power generation and/or asset management, partnered with 5+ years supervisory experience in heavy industry. 

Additionally, NRG is looking for a suitable candidate who has a high level of power station knowledge and experience, problem solving knowledge and proven ability in applying investigative techniques. 

The successful applicant will be required to have an understanding of workplace health and safety, and the ability to promote and maintain a safe work environment. As well as excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and understanding of risk management principles.
