Population Health Manager (parental leave)

The role

The Population Health Manager plays a key role in strengthening Northern Queensland Primary Health Network’s (NQPHN) understanding of community health needs and the impact of commissioned programs.

This parental leave position sits within our Data and Intelligence Team, where you will lead the analysis, interpretation, and translation of population health data to build a strong evidence base that informs planning, commissioning, and decision-making across the organisation.

What you'll do

In this role, you will:

  • Analyse quantitative and qualitative health data to identify trends, needs, and priority issues. 

  • Translate research and evaluation findings into clear insights for internal teams, executives, and external partners.

  • Provide expert advice on population health, health inequalities, and emerging health issues to guide strategy and commissioning. 

  • Prepare high level reports, health needs assessments, and data briefs.

  • Contribute to improvements in data collection, management, visualisation, and system design. 

  • Design and analyse stakeholder engagement activities including surveys and focus groups. 

  • Support research and evaluation projects across the organisation.

  • Represent the organisation in meetings with Local, State, and Commonwealth stakeholders.

Key selection criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Postgraduate degree in research and evaluation disciplines, or similar, and at least 3-5 years relevant work experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, involving complex statistical methods that address health and/or social issues. Ability to take complex information and distil this into easy-to-understand information, to contribute to the production of summarised reports for internal use and external publication. 

  • Extensive data storage, management, analysis and interpretation skills that are compliant with national, regional and state policies and procedures. Experience with specialist statistical/ data analytical software and data management software e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, S-PLUS, EPIDATA, EPI-INFO. 

  • Experience in academic writing (peer review publications and/or high-level report writing for Government or other peak body audiences) would be highly regarded. 

  • Extensive knowledge and application of contemporary population health concepts and demonstrated high-level understanding of opportunities and challenges for the primary health sector in the north Queensland region. 

  • High-level written and oral communication skills, including an ability to adapt to a range of audiences. 

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and leadership skills and experience. 

  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and the ability to become proficient in other software programs as required.
