Nepean Longwall have an excellent opportunity for a Experienced QLD Workshop Manager to lead, develop and motivate the workshop departments at our Paget facility. This role will see you directly leading the Electrical, Fitting, Fabrication and Gearbox/HYD departments. Experience overseeing large teams is a must!.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:  


  • Ensure the timely, efficient and safe operation the workshop
  • Co-ordinate work flow in accordance with schedules/project plans
  • Oversee workshop staff on a day to day basis
  • Enforce the correct use of machinery and equipment
  • Operate relevant machinery, as required
  • Reporting as per Workshop Managers requirements
  • Reporting of plant faults/breakdowns
  • Oversee and mentor tradesmen and apprentices
  • Oversee Assembly, testing and fault finding of equipment
  • Oversee stores to ensure adequate level of stock items are available
  • Oversee and delegate work plans in conjunction with workshop supervisor
  • Oversee workshop QA inspections
  • Ensure workshop and storage area housekeeping is of a high standard and free of hazards
  • Be able to fill in for Workshop Manager during leave/absents



  • Manage the work of direct reports
  • Ensure all new employees, tradesmen, contractors or visitors are inducted
  • Train employees on new procedures or processes as required.
  • Manage the performance of employees including completing performance appraisals and/or discipline of staff if required.



To work in a safe manner using appropriate Safe Work Instructions or Safety Operating Procedures and comply with relevant WHS Policies.

  • To notify the Operations Manager immediately of any hazards in the workplace and to monitor any actions taken to correct hazards to ensure that the hazard is removed from the workplace
  • Take all reasonable care and personal responsibility for the health and safety and maintenance of a safe work environment

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant Queensland trade qualifications (preferably Mechanical)Absolutely,
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Sound knowledge of U/G Longwall equipment is highly regarded
  • Alternatively, most heavy industrial or process factory maintenance experience will be considered
  • Fault finding skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both written and verbal
  • High attention to detail
  • Flexibility in approach to work; ability to meet deadlines, availability for additional work hours as required within Nepean Longwall fatigue management guidelines
  • Have previously managed large teams/departments 
  • Pronto experience 
  • First aid desirable
