Rates & Revenue Supervisor 

  • Permanent Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • $117,320- $124,475 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 7) + Superannuation
  • Location – Rockhampton

Your new role

Are you a natural leader with experience overseeing the rating function and debt recovery processes within a large organisation?  An opportunity has become available for a dynamic individual to lead our Rates and Revenue team.

Working closely with management you will ensure all rates and charges are accurately billed and collected in a timely manner, whilst meeting relevant legislation and policy requirements.  You will co-ordinate a team of rate officers, ensuring quality processes are implemented and operational effectiveness is achieved. You will become the rates specialist for Council and guide decision making of the Leadership Team and Council on rating and revenue matters. 

Your strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical within this role, along with analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.  A passionate, outcome-driven professional, you use a flexible approach to resolve problems. Your previous experience along with knowledge of relevant local government legislation and policies will ensure success in this role. 

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for

  • Lead and manage the Rates and Revenue team efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Degree qualification in Business Management and/or substantial experience in rates and revenues in a large, diverse organisation.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise, plan, and resolve issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with management, team members, and stakeholders.
  •  Support and advise on annual budget preparation, focusing on rating models, and assist in preparing Council reports and correspondence.

Application Criteria

  • Degree qualification in Business (management or related discipline) and/or substantial experience in rates and revenue functions.
  • Strong leadership qualities and experience driving a positive, collaborative and inclusive culture throughout your team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with management, team members and stakeholders
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and policies including Local Government Act and Council Rating Policies with extensive experience in debt recovery and dispute resolution.
