Senior Resident Fitter / Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Full-time | On-site

VE Group AU is looking for a Senior Resident Fitter / Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Gladstone team.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone who can work across both heavy vehicles and civil plant, including trucks, earthmoving gear and late-model machinery.

You will be based in Gladstone, with travel to Central Queensland projects and the Moura workshop when required.

This role is suited to someone who takes pride in keeping machines working, enjoys preventative maintenance and wants to be part of a strong, well-supported maintenance team.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Service and repair trucks, civil plant and heavy equipment

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical faults

  • Attend breakdowns when required and minimise downtime

  • Work with Division Managers to support plant availability and utilisation

  • Identify defects early and help prevent repeat issues

  • Support operators, supervisors and the wider maintenance team

  • Complete work orders, inspections and maintenance records

  • Help guide and support other fitters when needed

  • Work safely and follow VE Group maintenance procedures

This is not a workshop-only role. You will work across workshop, site and field environments while still being fully supported by the wider maintenance team.

What We’re Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Diesel Mechanic or Plant Mechanic

  • Experience working on trucks, civil plant and earthmoving equipment

  • Strong preventative maintenance and fault-finding skills

  • Ability to work independently and make practical decisions

  • Good communication skills

  • A strong safety mindset

  • Pride in quality workmanship

  • Current driver’s licence

  • White Card

  • MR or HR licence desirable
