SES Local Controller

  • Fixed Term (Until 31 January 2024) Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • Pro Rata amount of $98,887 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 5) + Superannuation
  • Location – Rockhampton

Your new role

Council are seeking a fixed term SES Controller to cover a short period of absence.  You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the local State Emergency Service Unit functions including administration, training and response to disaster and emergency operations. 

We are seeking SES member currently holding positions within our area, who have extensive experience in SES operations and are actively involved in key emergency service roles. You will have a strong knowledge of the QFES Act, the Disaster Management Act and the SES QLD Operational Doctrines. 

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

  • Demonstrated ability to pick up systems and information quickly.
  • Current SES member with extensive knowledge of SES legislation, roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of volunteers within a disaster management environment.
  • Ability to ensure the Unit functions consistently with Council and QFES policies.
  • Enthusiastic attitude towards enhancing SES’s capability during disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Application Criteria

  • Ability to rapidly acquire the knowledge of disaster management concepts, principles, the role and responsibilities of local government in disaster management arrangements.
  • Ability to demonstrate familiarity with SES doctrine and previous involvement in emergency response and leadership as a SES member.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a volunteer orientated and disaster management environment.
