Social History Officer

Council is seeking to appoint a permanent part time Social History Officer based at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum (GRAGM). Working hours for this role are Tuesday to Friday working 43.5 hours per fortnight, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to research, document and register the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM) social history collection and records. This role contributes to the development and management of GRAGM’s social history collections and records and supports delivery of GRAGM’s operations and educational programs. This position will also engage and liaise with community organisations, individuals, and internal and external stakeholders to build knowledge and capacity in our region.

Your role will include:

  • Contributing to the development of an engaging and educational program of social history exhibitions, experiences, and projects relevant to the Gladstone Region.
  • Developing collecting programs and advising on acquisition, significance, and documentation, of GRAGM’s social history collection items.
  • Researching, review, verification and updating accession records and documentation specific to the GRAGM social history collection.

You will bring:

  • Primary research skills and demonstrated knowledge and experience working with museum collections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant experience in collection and management of historical material.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Time management, prioritisation and planning skills in order to complete tasks within required timeframes.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy, with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Proficient keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and operating corporate business systems.
