Join Our Crew as a Truck Driver

Mackay Regional Council is on the lookout for skilled and safety-conscious Truck Drivers to join our Civil Operations team. If you love working outdoors, operating heavy vehicles and machinery, and being part of a team that keeps our roads and drainage infrastructure in top shape-this is the job for you!

We have three positions available!

What You'll Be Doing

  • Operating rigid trucks and truck-trailer combinations up to 42.5 tonnes GCM.
  • Performing hands-on labour and operating ride-on equipment and mechanical plant.
  • Supporting road, drainage, and civil infrastructure maintenance and construction.
  • Managing traffic safely around work sites.
  • Maintaining equipment and completing daily pre-start checks.
  • Recording work using digital tools and completing timesheets.
  • Providing excellent service to internal and external clients.

Essential Requirements

  • Current QLD Heavy Rigid Truck 'HR' Class Licence
  • Current QLD Manual Car 'C' Class Open Driver'sLicence
  • Current General Construction Safety 'White' Card
  • Current Traffic Controllers Ticket
  • Sound experience driving tandem axle trucks in varying road conditions
  • Experience in road and drainage infrastructure maintenance/construction
  • High-level truck driving skills and competency
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or independently
  • Strong communication and manual handling skills
  • Knowledge of machinery maintenance and WH&S regulations
  • Willingness to work overtime and operate other construction equipment as needed

Desirable Extras

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction
  • Tickets/licences for operating additional plant (e.g. backhoe, roller, loader)
  • Experience in concrete work and finishing
  • Skills in operating ride-on equipment and medium mechanical plant
  • Understanding of Council's Enterprise Risk Management Policy
