Council is seeking to appoint 3 x casual Water Meter Readers to contribute to Council’s success.

  • Do you enjoy working outdoors? Gladstone Regional Council have casual outdoor roles available for keen individuals
  • Casual, periodic role - working 38 hours per week for 4-6 weeks
  • Working throughout Gladstone region

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to support Council’s direction through routine field work in reading water meters and recording and verifying water consumption in order for water charges to be levied on ratepayers in the Gladstone Region. There may be opportunities for the incumbent to voluntarily opt-in to other routine field work relating to Council’s annual Animal Inspection Program.

Your role will include:

  • Working independently and with other members of the team.
  • Uploading / downloading route information to / from handheld devices.
  • Accurately reading allocated meter routes in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
  • Understanding and ensuring targets are met.
  • Regularly communicating with the office support team.
  • Upholding Gladstone Regional Council safety standards and publicly representing Council in a professional manner.
  • Working in a range of weather conditions.

You will bring: 

  1. Current valid driver’s licence.
  2. Ability to perform physical tasks on a daily basis – walking, bending, squatting and lifting of lids.
  3. Communication skills, positive attitude, strong work ethic and good attention to detail.
  4. Basic literacy and numeracy to read and understand directions and record water meter read data.
  5. Ability and experience to effectively handle situations that may arise with small to large animals.
