Water Meter Readers

Council is seeking to appoint 2 x casual Water Meter Readers to contribute to Council’s success.

  • Do you enjoy working outdoors? Gladstone Regional Council have casual outdoor roles available for keen individuals
  • Casual, periodic role - working 38 hours per week 4-6 weeks twice yearly
  • Work throughout the Gladstone region

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to support Council’s direction through routine field work in reading water meters and recording and verifying water consumption in order for water charges to be levied on ratepayers in the Gladstone Region. There may be opportunities for the incumbent to voluntarily opt-in to other routine field work relating to Council’s annual Animal Inspection Program.

You will bring:

  • Labouring skills to perform physical tasks on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in a similar work environment.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy in order to read and understand directions and record water meter read data.
  • Ability and experience to effectively handle situations that may arise with small to large animals.
  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Legally able to drive a motor vehicle in Queensland.

About you

  • Able to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Able to upload / download route information to / from handheld device.
  • Able to accurately read allocated meter routes in a timely, efficient and safe manner
  • Able to understand and ensure targets are met and regularly communicate with office support team.
  • Willing to uphold Gladstone Regional Council safety standards and publicly represent Council and our customers in a professional manner.
  • Able to perform physical tasks on a daily basis –walking, bending, squatting and lifting of lids in varying weather conditions.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and good attention to detail.
