  • Classification: School Officer Level 5 (salary range from $75,924 - $79,618 per annum)

ABOUT US

EREA Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,000 young people in 21 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in Sydney. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded.  

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Youth Worker reports to the Area Principal or delegate.

The Youth Worker supports and leads:

  • effective learning and teaching programs for young people in both middle and senior phases of secondary education. 
  • physical health and emotional wellbeing of the young people.
  • development and implementation of the schools strategic and operational plans regarding the function of your role as youth worker.
  • maintenance of a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • relationship with the school, staff, students and their families, industry, and community organisations in relation to planning, actions and achieving outcomes.
  • young people to engage with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings.

ABOUT YOU

ESSENTIAL:

  • A Working with Children Clearance Notice
  • Current driver’s licence (essential) or Light Rigid license (highly desirable) 
  • Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of the local First Nations communities.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice
  • Understanding of current youth work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people particularly within the alternate education sector
  • Sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including participating in meeting processes, report writing and negotiation skills
  • Skills in computing (especially word processing, Internet) and skills, or the ability to develop skills in database
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level with Social Work/Youth Work experience (or working towards a qualification) or equivalent life experience
